The most complex surface in the 50cm works — Zoë has used acrylic, ink, oil pastel, charcoal and collage, and the result is a surface of remarkable textural depth. Warm olive and gold tones at the lower portion give way through a complex mid-register toward a luminous white-grey at the top, the centre of which has a softly glowing quality, like light seen through thick cloud. The most materially adventurous of the medium-sized works.
